SMHS policies applying to faculty

  • This policy establishes guidelines for campus deans at the School of Medicine & Health Sciences regarding emergency closure of activities at campus sites. Each Campus Dean has the authority to cancel classes and/or close their respective campus office in the event of adverse weather or other event.

  • Proposed changes in clinical clerkships must be brought for review and approval if they involve changes in the educational objectives of the clerkship; substantial changes in content, delivery or duration, or method of assessment of students; and/or significant change that would have an impact on other clerkships or on a longitudinal integrated clerkship (LIC) such as Rural Opportunities in Medical Education.

  • This policy establishes guidelines for managing conflicts of interest between faculty and students with regards to assessment. A given faculty member shall not be responsible for evaluation of a student when there is an unmanageable conflict of interest.

This relationship should be carried out in a professional manner in a learning environment that places strong focus on education, high quality patient care and ethical conduct" (the AMA section on Medical Schools in cooperation with the AMA Student and Resident Sections and reflects the policy of the SMHS).
